Kelso hunter chase could be saved

Kelso have had to cancel their chases again and that means the hunter chase which is worth £12k has been called off. Hopefully the race could be saved though as the racing director at Perth has told me on Twitter they are looking into running the race on their card on June 8th

The attempt was made but the thinking is that most horses are either targeting Stratford or have been taken out of training for the summer so the race won’t now be run sadly.

I wonder, would it count as the last HC of the old season or the first of the new, given its post Stratford?

I do wonder if that might complicate things given horses can go back into handicaps once the season has ended. Hopefully the bha will see sense though. I’m sure connections will have targeted the race given the prize money on offer

And if it were run on June 8th it would not be the latest date in the season for a hunter chase to be run. In 1962 Devon & Exeter, Fontwell Park, Hereford, Huntingdon and Towcester all held hunter chases on June 11th. Whether they therefore hold the record I don't know. Young Gordon may even have been at Huntingdon that day?
