Given Maelstrom mentioned on his live results thread that there wasn't many views and one of the reasons I gave was that there weren't as many people posting or even signed up as JFF. Gordon mentioned it was worth starting a new thread for it so it can be discussed and I think he's right.
So do people think having live results on here is worth doing?
What can be done to get people posting more?
I always have a Quick Look on here for the results and am very thankful to the people who take the time to do so , no matter how brief or thorough they are Maybe after the goings on with people on JFF , people don’t want to possibly offend anybody on here ?
I think it's fabulous when someone takes the time to post live results and updates on the forum. I often check in to see if anyone's at a particular meeting.
Photos of the bookmakers' boards 👍 the 1-2-3s 👍 comments on the races, and even just the basic info without any commentary are appreciated. Thank you to the reporters who keep us in the loop. 👏 😇😀
As I know personally many of the commentators in the EA region I do seek them out especially if it is a quiet afternoon runner wise and encourage them to give this forum a shout out and on extremely quiet afternoons they have done 2 or 3 times 😎
As someone who has posted ( not very well 😕) results in the past i know only too well how much of your afternoon it takes up.
I suspect many are like me.... ealier in the season I devour every bit of pointing info and am desperate to know what is going on at meetings across the country. However by the time we get around to the glut of bank holiday fixtures, pointing overload has begun to set in. I will still follow closely what is going on at Garthope, Dingle or Kingston Blount as there will be horses and jockeys that I am particularly interested in. Frankly and no disrespect I can wait for the Wetherbys results to find out who won a level 3 conditions race in Northumberland or Devon.
Personally I think this forum is evolving in the right direction and is becoming a valuable resource so here's hoping that everyone continues to contribute in various ways.
We also have to acknowledge that the pool of people willing to commit their thoughts on line has shrunk...... Jumping for Fun actually peaked in April 2015 and the number of people logging on had been steadily declining over a decade, albeit with a bit of a Renaissance over covid.
So thanks to everyone who has given up time to post results on here and again let's all try to entice more people to join and contribute.
I'm not in a huff over the fact that the number of views are so low but, as most people know, I have other things to do on the day nowadays and there's no point me wasting my time if people aren't bothered.
As Darran says, the chat afterwards was always the most enjoyable angle and that has been missing too which is a shame. At least when there was a thread for a meeting there was somewhere for people to comment if they wish.
I'm not fool enough to be in denial that the sport as a whole has issues but I'm very much a glass half full person and I have no desire whatsoever to spend my time being told the end us nigh. There is still a hell of a lot of good stuff going on and it is not all bad news!
As someone, who with Gordon's help, has posted quite a view live results this year I am under no illusion that there is a significant audience for them, I do it on the basis that a few might be interested. A couple of reasons why the interest level in them is low. Most forum members are likely to be out at a point to point or watching racing either live or at home of a weekend afternoon. Secondly the official results are up within an hour of most meetings finishing, so like me, more people probably catch up with them from there in the evening. I don't know that there needs to be a collective decision to discontinue or continue with them, just left up to individuals if they would like to post.
