Finally got around to watching the AGM video........ hmmmmn
Whilst I applaud the PPORA Committee for their work in supporting meetings and marketing the sport, there did seem to be a lack of clarity over the big issues masked by a lot of fairly meaninglessness waffle.
It appeared that the body who represents owners and riders did NOT have any formal discussions or agree any corporate position over the proposed race changes 🤔 Instead it was a case of " leave it to Charlie " who as a commercial trainer might have a small conflict of interest 🤪Thought Tim Sage was the voice of reason and he reinforced my view that the grass roots races are something that should be preserved. Have to confess that I got exceedingly confused by the stats when with only 60 odd races we had 100+ winning owners and a similar number of jockeys?
Still it should be noted that the PPORA is in a much better place than it was a couple of years ago😃
I was pleased to see that Charlie Poste is against licenced trainers running other people’s horses in ptps. Whether licenced trainers are sneaking them in under cover is one thing but I truly believe that if they get the go ahead then it will put off even more people from being involved and the gains will probably be less than the losses.
The comment I would make on the back of it would be that, having just completed my first season as Yorkshire Area PRO whereby I talked to every set of winning connections for my reports, I would very much say that the perception that the sport is dominated by expensive purchases, in my part of the world at least, is a misconception. Slaney Opera and Hollywood Harmon both racked up a string of wins before going on to land good wins in hunter chases. Both cost their current connections £1000. Sine Nomine cost £2400. Outside of the young horse maidens there is much fun being had with modestly bought horses.

It was an interesting watch/listen.
