Thanks. Our Plan was / is to go to Aintree with Tommy so this has put a spanner in the works! The ground is probably going to be a deciding factor on our decision as he much prefers good ground.

You're quite likely to get good going at Kempton , so good LUCK with trousering his 5 grand.

Like I say it’s a great idea but it’s the wrong races. I’m sure with longer to think about it something achievable can be come up with for next season. It’s great that Nicks involved and it’s helped massively but you want a bonus to be something that people can target and I’m not sure that will be the case.

Darran Nick did not choose the races we gave them to him !! all very hurried so hopefully if he decides to carry on next season (and I hope he does) we can start liasing in September/November and not December/January and work as a team for the good of pointing.

It’s an interesting conundrum, where does pointing need support? There are definitely individual ptps that struggle to raise sponsorship but also there’s promoting pointing and encouraging people to get involved, at all levels whether as participants or racegoers.

The original concept, on j4f, was to (hopefully) raise awareness of pointing to a wider audience, an audience already engaging with jump racing, who might not be fully aware of pointing and what it actually is/does. Putting £1k into a ptp wouldn’t even cover the sponsorship of a premier race, though some ptps do ask for less just to get something to go towards the costs (it’s less than the purse of some races). Paying for advertising on a racing channel or for some columns in the racing post would cost many, many x more. Publicity is not financially tangible, the amount raised the first year the crowd sponsorship launched wouldn’t have raised enough to sponsor one premier ptp race yet did sponsor 4 hunter chases and brought a lot of attention with interviews on racing television. Nick Luck has brought even more attention and certainly the amount raised this year couldn’t have bought as much. It would be brilliant if a pointer could win the two races and very generous of NL to put up the bonus but the value here is in the publicity for the sport as a whole.
