To be fair to Maisemore, they retained their first race as one in which the horse could not have won above Restricted level in last season or this. However, this made it good for young horses and of course those who have had one year out from injury, which does not solve the moderate horse level.
There was a series for 8+ yo at Level 3 last year which had not won above Restricted. It did not get great entries because frankly many owners fail to read carefully the conditions and should probably have been called Level 4 so everyone got the idea. However, it did have the best runner to entry ratio because those owners realised it was their only chance.
However, we are where we are. For what its worth there will I suspect be opportunity in L3 Conditions races as season goes on due to dearth of horses.
Finally it is worth noting that last season there were I believe 119 winners of the 188 conditions races and only 3-4 won 3 so they are not being farmed in quite the way people imagine. Furthermore horses carrying 12st 12lbs (including jockey allowance) and above seldom win until its fast ground or v small fields (although I admit this season there have been exceptions for some reason).
