Tranwell
Enjoyable day's racing at Tranwell today.
Conditions seemed pretty testing and they were generally finishing quite tired. 41 runners in total.
Jayjay's Boley Bob won the Northern Area Conditions level 3 by four and a half lengths from High On The Hill. Now four from five this season. Looked pretty much all out to do so though.
5yo My Caraline won the mares short maiden on her racecourse debut. Yet another winner homebred by Steve and Josie Knowles. She was trading as joint favourite just before I left the betting ring.
Tag Man was sent off at around 4/7 in the Ladies Open and passed the post a couple of lengths ahead of Watch Law however the result was reversed by the stewards after an enquiry due to interference on the run in. The general feeling amongst those I spoke to was that the favourite was a little hard done to however the replay and especially the head on which was available to the stewards would be enlightening.
Eastern Storm won a good Mens Open nicely at a shade of odds on seeing off Summerville Boy by a length. He is progressing extremely well for a six year old and looks like he could well be the one to finally bring home the Heart Of All England trophy for the Walton family who own, train and bred him. A proper job that.
John Dawson made a winning return from his broken collar bone at Duncombe Park when Wottinger was a smooth four length winner of the Conditions level 2.
All eight ran in the concluding flat race which Sweetjetapsycho won nicely. A Jetaway five year old who has winning siblings she comes from the family of Gold Cup winner Jodami.
As a rare gambler the only investment I made was from the ice cream van. Tranwell is a rather bleak and exposed spot on the top of a Northumbrian Hill but it didn't deter the hardy northerners from providing it with a brisk trade. I can give it a five star rating both for quality and price. Three quid including a flake is a bargain nowadays.
