March Statistics

While we await Easter entries with some trepidation this is my best effort at the stats for the season to date.

I'm not going to editorialise them, just give the facts.

There have been 58 meetings to date against last year's 60 at this point. Some 364 races have taken place, down from 380 last year.

2,470 horses have run (excludes walk-overs) against 2,567 last year, a drop of 4%.

The runners per race start to fall at this time of year and now stand at 6.8 for the current year (7.7 to Feb) which is identical to 6.8 for last year (7.5 to Feb).

The ratio of runners to entries has declined from 64.6% ytd Feb to 60% ytd March.

This is the last ten years of runners in our area, with three meetings still to run. The COVID years are anomalous for obvious reasons (far fewer meetings) but average runners per meeting have essentially halved.
