In the first of what will hopefully be a weekly series on the Blog (as long as one of the two areas in question has a winner), I have summarised the successes enjoyed by trainers, jockeys and horses belonging to the South Midlands, Sandhurst and West Mercian Areas at Lower Machen on Sunday.

The 2025-2026 point-to-point season kicked-off at Lower Machen in South Wales on Sunday 9th November, and participants from the South Midlands and West Mercian Areas were to the fore, taking five of the six races between them. Leading trainer Alan Hill and his daughter-in-law, former female champion jockey Izzie – seeking to regain her title this year – were in double form. (This is something that I used to do on a monthly basis for South Midlands and Sandhurst, and that I know the late Pete Mansell did in the old West Midlands Area, so I thought it worth reviving for the blog.
